Maybe it’s just because the sun has been shining a lot today, maybe it’s because I’m really looking forward to the holidays and spending time with my family, I don’t know. What I do know is that I had a real yearning to be sitting outside a beach hut, watching the waves of the sea lap against the shore whilst the sun slowly heads towards dusk. As this was one thirst that I was not going to quench today, I decided to paint some beach huts instead:
I used my watercolour pencils initially to mark the edges of the wood panelling on the huts, I then added pale washes of each colour in an attempt to give the huts a little faded grandeur. The hut doors were done using white oil pastel with a very pale grey wash over the top. I lifted much of the paint off both the sand and the sky. I wanted the sky to have the very high, almost transparent clouds that we sometimes see here in the summer months. I hoped that the sand would look almost white, as it often does in glossy holiday brochures!!
