Positively negative …

It’s been a while since I painted a ‘negative’ image i.e painting the areas around the shapes (in this case, trees) but I saw one recently that had a small amount of overpainting done with a sponge. This is the result of a few hours painting and stopping to let each layer dry before painting the next:

  1. I enjoy the increasing complexity that these layers give your work. Adds mystery to it. I try to put that into my sea paintings, but often lose it with acrylics unless I add lots of transparent medium. This is lovely!

    • Thank you. I am always pleasantly surprised by what happens when watercolour paint is given time to simply do its own thing. It means I have to be patient though, fine thing I’m not very good at!
